The camera we can borrow at the school

As I chose the photography class, I’m allowed to borrow a camera at the school, so I had the chance to try a reflex device. It was a real challenge for me because I’m so used to take pictures with just my phone. We had theorical lessons in class about how the camera works, and then we had some projects to work on.

The first project was on the depth of field. We had to make a set of 3 pictures based on a specific depth. I chose to take pictures of flowers with a low depth of field.

Here are the results :

Its was difficult at first to understand all the different controls and there impact on the final pictures, but I quite happy with the results for my first try.

The seconde project was to create a set of 4 pictures based on showing movements.

I decided to do portraits and try different ways to show movments, by moving the subject or lens.

Here are the results :

This as been a total new experience to me and made me want to make even more progress in photography.

For our next project we will us low-tech devices, such as a phone or a vintage camera.

  The epic stairs

I went to the Montmorency forest to see the waterfall and trees. The vew was incredible.

84 meters of waterfall, 30m higher than Niagara falls

Here is the Notre Dame cathedral located in old Québec. I thought it was much lighter than french churches were it’s always very gothic and dark.

I also went to Orléans Island, famous for the high number of orchards and the activity of apple picking.

Frontenac Castle

After all the paperwork done, I had the opportunity to visit the city a bit. I went to the Old Quebec were I saw the famous Frontenac Castle with the pretty terrace and a wonderfull view of the St-Laurent River.

The neighborhood is very lively, full of performers, little shops and cafés. I walked uphill to the plains of Abraham and the view was fantastic ( thanks for the perfect weather ! )

I stumbled by chance on a Festival, based on autochtone culture.
There was music, shops, traditions explained, and… Poutine !

First Poutine !

Then I did a tour of the campus with other students. This University is huge, and you can find a maze of tunnels underneath used in the winter time.

Landing in Quebec

Landing in Quebec

Here I am in the city of Quebec !

After a nice journey, I arrived at night in the city. The taxi driver was very nice, he even helped me lifting my suitcases up the stairs of my appartment. I have a room in a flat that I’m sharing with a nice person from Quebec and her cute cat.

My cosy room

My house is at a 20 min walk from the school of design, and 30 min from the campus of Laval University.  I spent my first day getting adjusted to my new enviromment , going grocery shopping and

giving some papers to the administration of the school.

This is a huge entrance

Today, I went to the school briefing, which was very interesting and a source of precious informations. I had the opportunity to meet and have a little tchat with some french exchange students.
It’s crazy how big the campus is. Nothing like my little school in Paris.

Finaly, I went to the design school, to choose my classes. The building of the school is incredible.
The entire hall is actually a previous yard, so that the walls looks like façades.

Those are my classes :

  • Drawing,
  • Signes, imaginary and culture,
  • Photography,
  • Illustration,
  • Design interface.

I’m really looking forward for the classes to begin and meet my classmates !

It does looks like a design school isn’t

– Almost there !

Tomorrow is the day I leave for Canada ! Everything is almost ready now.
I would be studying graphic design at the University of Laval in Quebec for 4 months.
Its my first time travelling alone so I think this would be a challenging experience.
fingers crossed for the journey to come…!
